Stephen Grillos:
Head of Product and Engineering, SiteRx
About Stephen Grillos:
As a product and engineering leader that has spent most of my career in early-stage startups, I have found I bring the most value when I am able to focus on the following aspects of building teams and companies:
Mentorship: helping teams and individuals discover ways to make a massive impact
Vision: Creating a clear, actionable vision of the future we wish to create, and working with teams to align their work to aid the company in iterating its way towards that future state.
Customer-centricity: digging deep into customer pain points to discover their why, and constantly iterating on improving our solutions to their problems
Measuring impact: Constantly questioning how our products and services are making an impact on our customer’s lives, and striving to ensure we are measuring the right things to give us the insight we need to make the best decisions.
Professional Background
I’ve worked in multiple industries, including: healthtech, music, gaming and cyber-security. Career highlights include:
Health-tech: Directed the vision, execution and launch of InclusionAI, an AI-driven patient recruitment platform that has processed tens of thousands of patients, across multiple therapeutic areas, resulting in clinical enrollment rates greater than 500x industry standards
Music-tech: Designed and launched a two sided music licensing platform that facilitated the usage and attribution of copyrighted content between rights owners (record labels and music publishers) and the world’s largest social media platforms (resulting in two patents).
My Approach
People
I love building things with others. I love identifying problems worth solving, ideating with a collaborative group on how we want to attack the problem, determining what and how to build it, identify how to measure our impact, and iterate to continue to improve the product or feature.
People Development
People can be messy, you have to really care about them to manage/lead them. I’ve had a lot of bosses that clearly didn’t take this role seriously. When it was my turn I vowed to do the opposite. I love working to discover what makes people great. What triggers them, and knocks them off their game. How to motivate and inspire them to be impactful, to do important work, and to feel good about what they do on a daily basis
Vision and strategy
I am constantly working to create a clear vision of the future we wish to create, and articulating a strategy to build our way there. In order to achieve this, it is critical that everyone in the org aligns around a clear goal, or outcome, and understand how their work contributes to reaching this end state. Lacking clarity, teams often wind up moving in different directions, and that future vision never materializes.
